(Day 10 of the 12 Days of Christmas)
Need inspiration for your holiday party playlist? Here are 12 song suggestions from various genres for you to pick from to create your personal party playlist.
1. Eartha Kitt- Santa Baby
For 3 minutes and 28 seconds, no one will judge you for seeming a bit materialistic and very sultry when you and your guests sing along to this song. Hurry up, find the mistletoe, and get your crush’s attention while the mood is still right!
2. The Killers- I Feel it in My Bones
This new Christmas-themed single is perfect for the young adults who may make the naughty list this year.
3. Justin Bieber ft Busta Rhymes- Drummer Boy
I don’t have Bieber-fever, but this song made me laugh and had to be included. If you want to put a little bump and grind into your Christmas Carols, this song might be right for your party.
4. Jackson 5- Santa Claus is Coming to Town
If there is anything that is guaranteed to make your guests sing and dance, it’s any song by the Jackson 5. Seriously, could you resist? That was a rhetorical question. The answer is always “no”.
5. The Waitresses- Christmas Wrapping
This song is kind of strange, but so wonderfully funky. Listen to that bass! If you go the holiday season without hearing this song, well, your Christmas just isn’t complete.
6. Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band- Merry Christmas, Baby
Remember when I said that Jackson 5 will make everyone at your party get up and dance? The same can be said for Bruce Springsteen. All generations love the Boss, so you can play this song regardless of who is attending your event.
7. Mariah Carey- All I Want for Christmas is You
Even the hardest, meanest biker can’t help but belt this song out Mariah style. That may or not be true. There is only one way to find out…
8. Wham!- Last Christmas
If there’s any chance that an ex-couple will be showing up to your holiday party, this song is guaranteed to entertain. Awkward tension, too much punch, and this song can lend themselves to quite a memorable moment. Plus, I mean, how could you not play “Last Christmas”?
9. John Lennon- Happy Christmas (War is Over)
Almost everyone loves the Beatles. If you don’t, feel free to go back to torturing baby animals or making children cry or whatever it is that you do instead of loving the Beatles. The rest of us will enjoy this song.
10. She & Him- Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
Zooey Deschanel should always sing Christmas songs. I decided this when I realized that she was the girl from “Elf”. This song is a great rendition of Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree for any ugly sweater party.
11. Frank Sinatra- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Slow it down with a little Sinatra and put some class into your Christmas celebration.
12. Alvin and the Chipmunks- Christmas Song
This song reminds me of the years in my childhood when Christmas was far more magical and far less egg-noggy. If your party will be full of Generation Y, this song will be a hit.
If you’re having a hard time making your own playlist, you may want to hire a DJ. All-in-all, many DJs are pretty affordable and will take a lot of stress off of you and a lot more fun into your event. Tell your DJ about the crowd you’ll be entertaining, and he or she should be able to put together something awesome for everyone.
For the holiday party I hosted, I called a reliable DJ I know, DJ Devine. He sent DJ Q, and I couldn’t have asked for a better DJ. He was fun, easy-going, well-prepared, and kept the guests entertained all night long with his wonderful song selections. DJ Q not only played some great songs that spanned a variety of musical genres to keep everyone happy, but he also allowed me to use his equipment to announce the winners of a raffle I was holding. All the while, he was very engaged and made the raffle all-the-more exciting. I can’t imagine having held the event without him.
I highly suggest contacting DJ Devine / DJ Q if you’re looking for a DJ and live in the New Jersey tri-state area. I, and other party-throwing friends of mine, have used DJ Devine Entertainment many times for our events, and have never been let down. Not to mention, DJ Devine Entertainment does not only offer their services for intimate parties, but also for Weddings, Community Events, Picnics, Sweet 16s, Clubs, Fundraisers, and more. DJ Devine also has a photobooth you can rent, which your guests are guaranteed to love. You can easily contact DJ Devine Entertainment from their website to book them for your next event.
If you don’t live in the area, spend a little time doing some research and you’re bound to find a good DJ near you!
